HEALTH CONDITIONS WE SUPPORT
Thyroid Health Support
Your thyroid affects almost every cell in your body.
If you’ve been experiencing ongoing fatigue, weight changes, brain fog, constipation, anxiety, hair loss or difficulty concentrating, your thyroid may be part of the picture.
The thyroid is a small gland with a big job. It produces hormones that regulate your metabolism, energy production, body temperature, mood, digestion, menstrual cycles and many other important functions throughout the body.
At Pure Health Nutrition, our Clinical Nutritionists and Naturopaths take a personalised, root-cause approach to thyroid health. Rather than simply looking at one blood marker, we aim to understand the bigger picture—including your symptoms, thyroid function, nutrient status, gut health and immune health.
We work alongside your GP and endocrinologist to provide evidence-based nutrition and lifestyle support for both underactive and overactive thyroid conditions.
Thyroid Conditions We Support
We commonly support clients experiencing:
What We Look Into
Your thyroid doesn’t work in isolation. Our goal is to understand why your thyroid function may have changed and identify factors that could be influencing your symptoms.
Depending on your health history, we may investigate:
- Autoimmune thyroid disease
- Thyroid hormone production and conversion
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Gut microbiome health
- Chronic inflammation
- Blood sugar regulation
- Stress and cortisol
- Hormonal imbalances
- Sleep and lifestyle factors
Depending on your health history, your practitioner may recommend:
We believe it’s important to assess the complete thyroid picture, rather than relying on a single marker alone.
While pathology laboratories use broad reference ranges to identify disease, our practitioners also interpret your results alongside your symptoms, health history and the complete thyroid picture. This helps us determine whether further investigation or support may be appropriate.
Where appropriate, to assess cortisol patterns and hormone health, as stress and hormonal changes can influence thyroid function and overall wellbeing.
The gut and thyroid are closely connected. Comprehensive stool testing allows us to assess digestive function, gut microbiome health and inflammation, helping us identify factors that may be contributing to immune health, nutrient absorption and thyroid function.
To assess nutrient status, mitochondrial function, oxidative stress and metabolic pathways that may influence energy production and thyroid health.
Including your symptoms, medical history, medications, nutrition, lifestyle, stress, sleep, family history and previous pathology to build a complete understanding of your thyroid health.
Understanding Autoimmune Thyroid Disease
One of the most important things we investigate is whether an autoimmune condition is contributing to your thyroid dysfunction.
The two most common autoimmune thyroid conditions are:
Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
Hashimoto’s is the most common cause of hypothyroidism. In Hashimoto’s, the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland over time, leading to inflammation and reduced thyroid hormone production.
Graves’ Disease
Graves’ disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. In this condition, the immune system stimulates the thyroid gland to produce excessive amounts of thyroid hormone.
When thyroid disease is autoimmune, simply replacing thyroid hormone or managing hormone levels may not address the immune processes contributing to the condition. That’s why we also investigate factors such as nutrition, gut health, inflammation and lifestyle alongside your medical treatment.
Our Approach
Every treatment plan is tailored to your individual needs and may include:
- Nutrition to support healthy thyroid function
- Supporting adequate protein and micronutrient intake
- Gut health and microbiome support
- Addressing nutrient deficiencies
- Personalised supplementation where appropriate
- Stress and nervous system support
- Lifestyle strategies to support long-term thyroid health
- Ongoing monitoring and collaboration with your healthcare team
Where appropriate, we also work alongside your GP or endocrinologist to ensure you receive comprehensive, evidence-based care.
Our goal is to help you better understand your thyroid health, identify underlying contributors to your symptoms and support your long-term wellbeing.
